WELCOME TO BENCHMARK GAME BREEDERS

Benchmark Game Breeders consists of eleven members who all share a passion for wildlife and conservation. Their wildlife operations are mostly situated in the picturesque Valley of the Elephants and more specifically the area surrounding the historical little towns of Leydsdorp and Gravelotte. Benchmark Game Breeders specialise in stud game breeding.

Animals from this lowveld region are naturally exposed to ticks and are immune to tick-borne diseases like heartwater and redwater. Buyers of our animals therefore have the peace of mind that they can safely be relocated to other parts of South Africa and Namibia.

Between 1980 - 1990, our geographic area was the last remaining bastion for the dwindling sable antelope population and the initial focus of most Benchmark members was the protection of this species. This was soon followed by other scarce species like disease-free buffalo, roan antelope, tsessebe as well as most of the available colour variants and top-quality plains game.

The genetic quality of animals originating from Benchmark Game Breeders are well-known and recognised across South Africa and Namibia. Quantum improvements are evident from the superb animals that are on auction each year.

We would like to thank all our bidders and buyers over many years as our efforts would have been impossible without your support.

As the name indicates, Benchmark Game Breeders epitomize the many outstanding achievements like;

     1.     The very first sable study group in S.A. Since establishment in 1985, their successes in growing the declining population of sable antelope in Southern Africa are well documented.

2.     Over the past two decades Benchmark Game Breeders has been extra-ordinarily successful in improving the average horn length of adult bulls from approximately 37 inches in 1987 to more than 49 inches today while certain members are already well beyond 50 inches and are now using breeding bulls not far behind the all-time world record of 55⅜ inches.

3.     Benchmark Game Breeders was first in publishing critically important statistics like horn measurements on their game auction catalogues. These enabled buyers to objectively judge the quality and breeding potential of each and every animal on offer. Today this is commonplace and other sellers have followed suit.
